my life

Global Warming is My Fault I used to think that the worst thing I could do for my kids was let them have too much screen time. But the other day, when Oliver let 5 helium balloons “fly to the moon” without any concern, I realized my Fort Nite, Ryan’s Toys, YouTube addicted little monkeys were the least of my worries: I am raising global warming terrorists and they give zero f**s about their carbon footprints (I’m saying those words as if I even know what that means). This past week, I was convinced that a NBC Local news van was going to show up at my house to run a breaking ...Read More
House of Home and Family What do two babies under 2, a new house, a 4mm kidney stone, and a beautiful French Au Pair all have in common? C’est Moi, mes amis! C’est Moi! The good news is life has been anything less than boring. The bad news is that I’ve been so distracted that I haven’t written a blog post since May. And before that since April. And before that since February. That’s 3 blog posts for 2017 for those of you counting at home. For someone that prides herself on feeling productive, this has not been a very productive year on the writing and creativity front. But if you count productivity ...Read More
Go Forth and Forty I’ve typed and retyped an opening sentence 58 times. I was going to start by saying something simple and straight to the point like: “My 40th birthday is in 10 days” But that is so… it’s just… so… And not what I’m really trying to say. The problem is, I’m not sure what I’m trying to say about my birthday… That I’m sort of freaking out? That I’m sort of thrilled and excited? That I now understand the horror “magic” of my rear view mirror and all that it reveals? A lot of my older girlfriends tell me that 40 is fabulous. That at 40, you are finally confident– you know who you ...Read More
It’s 9:36am and I’m racing out the door to get to 9:30 workout class. I have spent the last 45 minutes telling myself that this workout is really important because not only will I not be able to workout for the rest of the week, but I totally fell off the wagon on day 9 ½ of my 21 day diet. Fucking Girl Scouts. But TODAY, I’m going to make it to class. To clear my head. To sweat. To work off 350 of the 3500 calories I consumed at the Chinese restaurant last night. I mean, if I go, I will be queen of the world. I have roughly 5 ...Read More
A #100HappyDays #bathroomselfie I’m a worrier… Always have been and, well, unless the Dalai Lama shows up at my doorstep with zen-like wisdom strong enough to knock the bejesus out of the anxiety that makes up this 37-year old, Jewish white female, the chances are I always will be. So… For better or for worse: I’m a worrier.  And it’s part of what makes me me. Sometimes, and I mean soooooometimes, worry does come in handy… I mean… It makes me a great planner, organizer, and problem solver. It makes me pay close attention to my body, my health and that of my loved ones too. It makes me detailed, curious, and super ...Read More
Ah, it’s March and that means Spring is in the air… Actually, here in Los Angeles, Spring was in the air in December and pretty much all through January…  and I’m pretty sure I spotted Summer one weekend in February…. So forget the air part. It’s just March. And that means a lot of things… For starters, for the past couple of years, every March I seem to make it my mission to cleanse. I want to clean house. To clean body. To clean mind. Without fail though, having just spent the two months prior to March making excuses, mentally, as to why postponing all my “cleansing” resolutions is probably better ...Read More

… for family. The traditions new and old, the questions that my mom asks repeatedly (still), the goodbyes that take forever (even though we’ll see each other tomorrow). It means I have family. It means I have support. … for my health. The extra stuff around the middle, the puffy eyes in the morning (and at night), the muscle cramps and aches after a hard workout (or bad night of sleep). It means I have health. It means my body works. … for my home. The loud and unfriendly neighbors, the (always dirty looking) tile that I would not have chosen, the clutter that waxes and wanes, ebbs and flows ...Read More
Do you ever think back about your life and assess where you are based on some of the stories you could tell? Certainly, my life experiences must be an indication of all that I’ve accomplished, all that is good, all that keeps me hopeful… Right? You know, all those “times” that are etched in our memories that define who we are, where we’ve been and what life still has in store…? Like the time I was 11 and on a national talk show. As a comedian. Telling jokes about Pee Wee Herman. Or…The time I experienced a 6.0 earthquake by myself also as an 11 year old…. Or… The time I moved to New ...Read More
