new year’s resolutions

1988. Washington D.C.Desk of Paul Simon.Like a BOSS Oh, The Places You Were Supposed To Go It’s 3:42pm. I’m standing in the lobby of a shitty building in North Hollywood. There’s an entrance to a bank outside the elevator bank where I’m waiting, and judging the covers of every “book,” I’m fairly certain this place could be robbed at any moment. Is someone going to come down to get me or what? I was supposed to go up for an interview at 3:30. I’ve now read the woman from HR’s email 15 times (yes, I did “dress appropriately,” thanks for reminding me. I didn’t realize it was 1992). I have called her ...Read More
From our wedding invitations and save the dates, to thank you notes and holiday and New Year’s cards, it’s pretty safe to say that Minted is my go to site for all things stationary. 2014 has been an incredible year filled with so many rich moments and memories. It’s important to me to find cards that reflect these sentiments and joy — but that doesn’t require a completely focused brain to create or order. (i.e. doesn’t require me to realize that when I order a $3.99 Frozen Elsa wand with stickers for my niece, that I should not select shipping for $27.99 to get it to me the next day. Ooops. ...Read More

My 35th Birthday Two years ago from this exact weekend, I decided the best way to celebrate a milestone birthday (my 35th) was to do it with a group of my nearest and dearest girlfriends. Using every last bit of my savings — or checking– depending on how you look at it, (I admit, not one of my wisest moves), we spent the weekend at a nearby resort in an oceanside villa, drinking, laughing, eating, sunning, toasting, cheers-ing, walking, talking, drinking and taaaaawlking some more. It was my treat. My joy. My pleasure. My honor to spend a weekend with a group of women (including my mom and aunt) who were ...Read More

It’s going fast…. this train. But I am definitely on board. It’s hard to believe that during this “don’t blink for a second” year, so much has happened. Not stuff, but moments. Memories. Changes. My LIFE. Let’s see… In 2012, in no particular order… 1) I learned to surf. 2) I moved myself, my son, (and everything but the couch) in with my boyfriend to a new home. (His couch was much, much better than ours).  3) I traveled to the most impoverished country in the Western Hemisphere and held the hands of extremely sick children. (Will be able to fully discuss this life altering adventure in a few more months). 4) I saw Bruce ...Read More
A couple years ago, a friend sent me the most massive astrology forecast I had ever seen. I had just separated so things were obviously a little tough and life was complicated. Looking and hoping for better luck, I turned to this 4 page horoscope outlining details of what would hopefully become a bright future. Show me the money. Alas, no dice. It appeared that financially, romantically, and professionally, my life would basically SUCK until sometime in 2011. Of course, it didn’t suck. Always. Just sometimes. 2011 came with a lot of highs and lows. Many wins and losses. Constant pushes and pulls. And while there’s been many successes, ...Read More
It all starts Monday. I don’t know what it is about new year’s (and diets for that matter too), but no matter the day or date it falls on, my “new year” and the resolutions that I make and vow to keep don’t actually go in to effect, in my mind, until MONDAY. So it’s only fitting that I discuss my resolutions TODAY, the THIRD day of the New Year…. I’m sick of saying how challenging 2010 was, so let me share something that really happened to me as an example that really ought to sum up just what a cluster effer of a year this one was: 2 flat tires in 2 ...Read More
Every year, every goddamn year, I make A LIST. Sometimes it’s just in my head. Other times it’s on paper. But every year, the list IS MADE. Every year I resolve to do more, do less, be something. Well, I wish I could say that this year “the list” can suck it and I’m going to spend 2010 being exactly as I am… But alas, I can’t… Because if there was any year that needs to be put to rest, tweaked, and given a complete overhaul, it is 2009. Yep. See ya bitches. Here’s what I’m doing in 2010: 1) Hitting Less Curbs. I personally think I’m a fine driver. ...Read More
