DIY Subway Art for Kids! This year I was asked to help spearhead the class project for our school’s gala. Every year, each classroom is asked to create an art project and it is auctioned off at the gala. Thanks to Pinterest, and a very full plate, I decided to do something relatively easy, but that I thought was unique and “sellable.”  I mish-mashed a few different ideas I saw, and came up with the idea of the kids creating their own subway art using adjectives/words that they came up with to describe themselves. Most subway art that you’d find on Etsy or in stores, uses fonts that are either stenciled or scanned ...Read More
What post plastic perfection seeking looks like. This past year, I’ve had the privilege of working with some incredible brands and partners on various campaigns. While a lot of my editorial content has been tied up in these various campaigns, this blog is still very much dedicated to telling candid stories, sharing ideas for DIY projects, fashion favorites, recipes, and more. By the end of the year, I plan to give this blog a complete face lift and makeover (if only under-eye cream worked that fast), which I’m super excited about and very much ready for. When I speak with web designers and marketing teams, or am out and meet new people (or my ...Read More
It occurred to me the other day that there are two very important things my son does, that are not only crucial to being a functional and independent human, but that as a parent I can take very little credit for: #1. Going to the bathroom (in a bathroom)#2. Reading. Let’s start with #1. Sure… Right before Jonah turned 2, in hopes that he would just be naturally drawn to potty training, I bought a little potty that lit up and sang if “the goods” hit the bowl. In truth… Other than becoming a receptacle for Curious George stickers and thick strands of black hair during my (weekly) blowout session (it’s the best I can do, people), ...Read More

For those of you that have been following, you might recall that 2 summers ago, I made the worst parenting decision of my life. I signed up Jonah for a swim boot camp… A week -long intensive taught by a “I swear-by-him… he’s a miracle worker… it’s so worth the money” guy in Los Angeles. Known for his controversial, sort of,“get in the pool and swim, kid” methodology, I wasn’t 100% convinced that this was the right thing for Jonah. HOWEVER, everyone I knew flocked to him and I was guaranteed that by the end of the week, Jonah would be swimming. And he did. For the ...Read More
6am.  A tap on my shoulder… Jonah: Mommy… Me: Yes…? J: I’m up. Me: I see. J: Mommy? Me: Yes…? J: I had a very bad dream. Me: I’m so sorry to hear that. J: Mommy? Me: Yes…? J: Please don’t be mad at me… but in my dream… I punched (my cousin). Me: Wow, that does sound like a bad dream. J: Are you mad at me? Me: No, honey. It was just a dream. J:… Because you know I’d never punch my cousin, right? Me: I know you’d never punch anyone. A few days later… 6am again… (I mean, seriously). Michelle Obama in a PSA on PBS. Me: Do you know who that is? J: No, who? Me: That’s The First Lady of the United States. That’s President Obama’s ...Read More

“Hi, Jonah’s Mommy,” they whispered as I entered the classroom.  “Hi, everyone,” I said quietly with a little wink directed at Jonah. When I dropped him off at school in the morning, I asked his teacher Mrs. S if she needed any volunteers later in the day. I have volunteered a few times… and though it almost inevitably means my son will misbehave more than usual (I suspect because he’s 5, and is excited that I’m there and therefore, “showing off”), I had an urge to be there… Even if it meant watching Jonah squirm when he should be listening, or me witnessing a flaw in the ...Read More

Last week, I got my first “Hi, this is the nurse calling from **** School. Your son has a terrible stomach ache and his teacher would like you to come get him.” The call came in roughly 17 minutes after I dropped him off.  To be exact, the actually came in roughly two hours from (the first time) he told me he had a stomach ache and didn’t want to go to school… to which I responded, “A tummy ache… Hmm. Maybe you should use the bathroom…?” He said that wasn’t the problem. It was just his tummy and he wanted to stay home. In fact, he needed to ...Read More
This is hardly the first post about what happened last Friday… Hardly the first post, by a “mom blogger” about frustration and fear…. Hardly the first post about a citizen of this country feeling stuck and helpless, yet restless and eager for change IMMEDIATELY… And it’s hardly the first anything that can change the fact that 6 brave adults aren’t alive to build a better future and that 20 beautiful babies are no longer playing on a yard at recess, or learning to read and write, or creating art that would have ultimately ended up on an already cluttered fridge, or becoming the “when I grow ...Read More
