diet

Photo from RealSimpleGood.com As I finally sat down to write this post last night, aka known as my favorite night of the year, Julia Roberts was walking out on stage and she looked so gorgeous, I literally gasped out loud. How ironic, I think to myself… here I am in in the middle of writing a post, sharing a recent paleo recipe I discovered and I’m drooling over both her stunning pink gown and the raspberry peanut butter cup Humphrey’s yogurt that I’m pretty sure will tip the scales (literally and figuratively) on my macros for the day (because what would my life be like if I wasn’t actually dieting at some ...Read More
Contradictions and the Baby Weight Loss Struggle Remember that time I said I was going to be kind and forgive myself for all the things that I don’t have a grip on? (No? Then refer to this post). Okay, so that was really nice. Lovely and heartfelt and dripping with completely sincerity. But now my hormones are back to normal are within the realm of norm (insert husband’s eye roll here) and the truth serum I’m serving isn’t holding punches: I’m fat. Like scale fat. Like 20 pounds from this picture fat. Now before you say, “Oh Jenny, I’ve seen you. You look great!” Or, “You JUST had a baby, don’t be so hard on yourself,” or ...Read More
Me with Maria Menounos at Ocean Spray Event for PACt
Last week, I attended a fantastic launch party in Hermosa Beach alongside Maria Menounos, E! Entertainment TV host, for the first taste of an innovative new beverage – PACt™ cranberry extract water from Ocean Spray.  We all know by now the importance of drinking water and staying hydrated. But let’s face it, sometimes we want a little more flavor… As someone who’s given up her daily diet soda, I can tell you, what to reach for instead of water has been a challenge. There’s only so much lemon, ginger, and cucumber you can add to water, ya know? PACt™ harnesses the health benefits of the cranberry with the hydration benefits of purified ...Read More
I’m pretty sure at some point since the inception of Perfectly Disheveled, I’ve confessed how every now and again (every time) I go to Traders Joe’s (or Costco… or Whole Foods… or any supermarket, really), I hope and pray that there is some sort of “stample,” as Jonah calls it, being given out.  Luckily, there’s a TJ’s in my hood and I can always guarantee that no matter what time I’m there, there will be a jolly guy with a beard serving up some sort of brilliant, but totally funky concoction. Fried rice with honey and spinach feta balls?  Who knew?! A few weeks ago, they were giving out samples of ...Read More
This past week marked my last week of a partnership with KLEAN LA… which meant my glorious 24 day run of all things gluten and soy free, was coming to an end. But guess what? I had so much success and am feeling so great, I’m not going to stop! In 24 days, which basically spanned over 5 weeks (as I scheduled my deliveries to Monday-Friday), I lost about 6 pounds and feel fantastic! With 47 days until “the big day,” *(but who’s counting, really) I’m not stopping now! There is obviously a big financial consideration when it comes to choosing to do a diet delivery service. But knowing that I ...Read More
Grilled Chicken MarbellaBaby Spinach & Roasted ZucchiniSpaghetti Squash I love the message I got from Kiki Heinzer, CEO and founder of KLEAN LA this week: “Low-carb diets are so 2000! We are all becoming more educated on the benefits of eating a diet of balanced, whole foods.  The use of complex-carbs in the Klean program plays a very important role. Carbs are our body’s main source of energy.  If you completely eliminate carbs from your diet, your body breaks down your precious lean muscle for energy instead.  The less lean muscle you have, the fewer calories you burn at rest and the slower your metabolism gets!  This means you have to work ...Read More
This year, Thanksgiving and Chanukah are sharing the spotlight. For my family, this means that at 5 o’clock when the turkey coma usually sets in, we’re going to have to rally for a little dreidel and gift exchanging action. This also means that as the Thanksgiving host, (I must be out of my mind to take this on this year), in addition to getting my menu prepped and table decor in line, I’m going to have to going to have to think about gifts about a month sooner than I normally would! As a curator for eBay’s new collections program, I’ve gotten a head start on all the things I want ...Read More
Ah, it’s March and that means Spring is in the air… Actually, here in Los Angeles, Spring was in the air in December and pretty much all through January…  and I’m pretty sure I spotted Summer one weekend in February…. So forget the air part. It’s just March. And that means a lot of things… For starters, for the past couple of years, every March I seem to make it my mission to cleanse. I want to clean house. To clean body. To clean mind. Without fail though, having just spent the two months prior to March making excuses, mentally, as to why postponing all my “cleansing” resolutions is probably better ...Read More
It all starts Monday. I don’t know what it is about new year’s (and diets for that matter too), but no matter the day or date it falls on, my “new year” and the resolutions that I make and vow to keep don’t actually go in to effect, in my mind, until MONDAY. So it’s only fitting that I discuss my resolutions TODAY, the THIRD day of the New Year…. I’m sick of saying how challenging 2010 was, so let me share something that really happened to me as an example that really ought to sum up just what a cluster effer of a year this one was: 2 flat tires in 2 ...Read More
After last week’s McDonalds/ “Cryyyyyyyyyyyyy” incident of 2010, I felt like a battered and wounded soldier. I really felt like I had made a decision that could lead to Baby-Ko having issues not only with food for the rest of his life, but major anxiety issues as well. Well, I asked Parents Ask expert Dr. Bonnie Zucker, a psychologist who specializes in anxiety for children and adults, to weigh in. According to Dr. Z, this one incident of stuffing my son’s feelings with happy inducing fried-ness may not result to a life sentence of therapy, buuuuuuut my parenting could use a little finessing… Check out her advice HERE! http://www.parentsask.com/parenting/anxiety/french-fries-wont-kill-your-kid.html
