I love the message I got from Kiki Heinzer, CEO and founder of KLEAN LA this week:

“Low-carb diets are so 2000! We are all becoming more educated on the benefits of eating a diet of balanced, whole foods.  The use of complex-carbs in the Klean program plays a very important role. Carbs are our body’s main source of energy.  If you completely eliminate carbs from your diet, your body breaks down your precious lean muscle for energy instead.  The less lean muscle you have, the fewer calories you burn at rest and the slower your metabolism gets!  This means you have to work much harder to look and feel good!  So enjoy the perfectly portioned complex carbohydrates that we serve on the Klean program guilt-free!  These carbs include oats, quinoa, millet, brown rice, sweet potatoes and yams and legumes!”

With 10 days down, and a few pounds down too, I feel better and lighter. (Don’t worry, at the end of this lWhat’s even more amazing is that on my “off days,” I find myself craving balance more than a certain food (that I haven’t eaten). Pizza doesn’t sound good because it’s missing protein and vegetable. I think it’s the balance that feels the best about this diet and also that I’m eating every 3 hours– Right when my body starts feeling hungry, it’s time to eat again!

I’ve been consistenly impressed with the creativity of meals. Some of the highlights this week were a Savory Grassfed Beef Burger, With Kale Wrap, Roma Tomato, Grilled Onions, Organic Ketchup & House-made Pickles (AMAZING!!), Italian Wedding Soup With Fennel Turkey Kale, Fennel, & Grape Tomatoes.

Who needs to eat out at places like Le Pain Quotidien or Lemonade, or even Umami when you have delicious  salads and burgers delivered like this to your doorstep?! I’m a lucky gal.

Some of you have asked me to share some of their recipes. Well, below is a recipe for their Marbella Sauce (served over chicken- as seen in the photo at the top). It’s Chef Jodi Remenap’s version of a great recipe from the Silver Palate Cookbook. So easy, so delicious and completely Gluten Free! Enjoy!
