Lately, I’ve started to come to terms with the fact that no one has a perfect or easy life. Everyone’s got “somethin’”and we’re all just trying to get by. Even when I see those lovely little photos and updates on my social platforms, I’m reminded that yes, life is good for me and my friends, but it’s not always easy and often times, a lot of times, it requires thick skin. Especially for moms.
This year, though I’m beyond excited to have baby on the way, has definitely had its bumps. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned about myself, it’s that I am a warrior. I’m a fighter. I am one tough mother.
There’s a ton of things that I can give credit to for making me a “pull myself up by the bootstraps” kind of gal… Being raised by an amazing mom, going to college in New York City, back-packing through Europe, waiting until 7cm to get an epidural, weathering the roller coaster that is divorce and finding a happy ending…. Just to name a few. But one of the things that also helps me stay on track and lets me wear my medal of toughness badge proudly, is my ability to multi-task and stay prepared. I know not everyone has the desire or Virgo-type personality (read: completely anal, type A, perfectionist) to be as “detailed-oriented” shall we say, as I am. But let me tell ya mamas, a little organization and thoughtfulness goes a long way during busy and tough times. I find that when I’m prepared, I am far more equipped to handle anything. Okay, not annnnything, but at least things like two-hour baseball practices or pregnancy food mood.
Well, to make tough mothers’ lives easier, Ziploc® brand introduced new Easy Open Tabs, and frankly: They are my new best friends. Here are some of the ways I’ve been using them:
Smoothie Prep:
Whether I’m making a smoothie for breakfast or an afternoon snack for the kiddo, without fail, it comes during a time that I’m in a mad scramble. I simply cut up about 4 -5 strawberries and combine them with ¼ cup of blueberries and about a cup of fresh spinach in to a Ziploc® brand Freezer bag with Easy Open Tabs. When it’s go-time, I simply dump the contents into a blender, along with some ice and coconut water (and flax or protein powder if I feel like it) and voila! Breakfast is served!

Movie Madness:
In Los Angeles, in the Spring and Summer time, there are a ton of venues that offer outdoor movies for the family. It’s a great way to spend the night under the stars with the family. But no movie is complete without goodies… And when I go the movies I do appreciate having “a choice,” and I certainly want to be able to partake in a little salty and sweet action. So, using a Ziploc® brand Storage bags with Easy Open Tabs, I take a couple pieces and different kinds of candy that we have in the house, and I put popcorn into the quart size bag. Depending on how many there are of us, and how generous I’m feeling, I will sometimes make everyone their own little bag. And by sometimes, I mean always. Pregnant ladies don’t share well.

Spring Break, Go!
It’s time for Spring Break, and we are heading to Hawaii. I’m so excited to spend a week with just Peter and Jonah swimming, sunning, and relaxing on the beach, sipping (virgin) Pina Coladas by the pool. When it comes to packing, it’s mighty important for me to feel organized so that I don’t have to guess where anything is when I get to the hotel. Vacations should be a breeze! I use the Ziploc® brand Storage bags with Easy Open Tabs in quart size for my toner and eye makeup remover and include the cotton pads that I need for removal. Not only does this keep everything in one place, but when things move and shift throughout the flight, I know these liquids will be safe in the bag.
I also have another travel essential I don’t leave home without: Ear Plugs. Not concerned about a loud hotel, oh no. Maui is anything but loud. But you haven’t heard my husband or son sleep…. And this mama needs a good night sleep. That’s all I’m gonna say about that!
In celebration of the launch of Easy Open Tabs, Ziploc® brand is partnering with the most challenging event around, Tough Mudder, to honor moms who are taking on a whole new level of strength. Ziploc® brand will be forming a Team Tough Mother made up of national and local influencers who will be present in markets around the country, participating in Tough Mudder events to honor tough mothers everywhere. I was so honored to be asked to participate but with a baby in the oven, “tough mudding” may not be the wisest choice. But I’m going to be cheering these awesome women on from the sidelines!
For my LA friends, there’s an event on March 28 & 29th at the Glen Helen Raceway. It’s an exhilarating course, as you find yourself conquering steep hills, navigating winding motocross tracks, and overcoming some of the most difficult obstacles the TM innovation team could dream up. How fun does this sound!
