When it comes to “the home,” I’m not sure the saying, “it’s what’s on the inside that counts” really works. Sure a home needs to be filled with love and warmth– a safe haven from the outside world. Stuffed with family, kids, and pets, it needs to be functional and utilitarian, and not just decorated, pretty and impressive… sure … And while keeping your home tidy and perfectly organized is all the time impossible, there are a few ways that can sort of mask the chaos (aka. Stuff it away) and make it appear like you have your shit together. BTW, What am I even saying? I’m writing this ...Read More
For those of you that don’t live in the world of all things (mom) blog, two weekends ago, I headed down to San Diego to attend BlogHer. There were about two dozen incredible and fun things that happened that weekend thanks to the Kate to my Alli, Diane Mizota, and my future bridesmaid (though she doesn’t know it) Jenny Feldon. But one of the best parts of the weekend, was that I got to spend the day shopping for Sears Style with the beautiful Erika Lehmann and Ellen of Thrifty and Chic Mom. The mission of Sears Style is to make women look and feel good in ...Read More
I don’t know about you, but from the outside, my purses look fantastic. Reach your hand in though, and it’s possible your fingers could get attacked by a Loch ness-goldfish crumbed-diaper-tampon infested-monster. Last month, I got to the office, opened my computer bag and voila: I had a lovely pair of underoos and a Pinocchio book waiting for me. Really? I’m that disheveled?? Recently I shot this video below for Piccolini TV. I gave myself a mini purse detox and it definitely felt better. What they edited out was the 95 tampons that would make one think I have some sort of horrible reproductive period thing happening, which thankfully, I do ...Read More
Who knew that getting rid of clothes that scream “final days of 90210!” and buying a few new duds that scream “WEAR ME” could stir up something big in me? The fashion makeover/wardrobe overhaul a few weeks ago that rocked the nation (okay, maybe just my nation) seriously revved up my design senses from head to toe, inside and out. It made me think not just about my own appearance, but the design or lack thereof, that’s going on in my home. I’ve been divorced for 2 years, living in an apartment with so much potential and beauty, yet have done nothing about it. I live here, yet I don’t. ...Read More
I have a new theory. After my wardrobe overhaul, I realized my clothes had more of a personality than I thought. It occurred to me today as I went to put on a newly styled outfit, that my clothes had voices and lives a la Toy Story… I had this vision that every time I opened the closet door, my oldest and most pilled sweater prayed for me to put it on…. My old jeans, slumped over some hanger, knowing their days were numbered and I was just keeping them around for sentimental purposes, probably muttered “F you” under it’s breath as I pushed them aside for my skinny jeans… ...Read More
The day Robin Saperstein of High Heel in a Haystack contacted me about doing a Fashion Makeover, I was convinced we were having a kharmic, psychic fashion connection. Here I was, having just shot a video on how Appearances matter when it comes to Manners and how my American Apparel pullover and Lululemon yoga pants could take my son to preschool on their own if need be– and an LA based, celebrity stylist and former designer contacts me about working together…?! Well, to quote Lady Bananas: I. DIE. The deal was Robin was going to come over and give me a Wardrobe Overhaul. Together, we would examine my wardrobe from ...Read More
Could you go one day without shoes? Around your house, sure… But around your city? Throughout your day? Your week? Your year? Could you imagine sending your children to school without the proper clothing, including, perhaps the most essential item: Shoes? It’s almost impossible to imagine… A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of joining a couple of bloggers that I know and admire (Heather Spohr, Rebecca Woolf and Nanette of Say It, Don’t Spray It ) at the TOMS Shoes Headquarters in Santa Monica. Walking through their incredibly unique and downright hip space, it was easy to see how passionate TOMS employees would be about their company. Though ...Read More

When one thinks of manners, they don’t often think of APPEARANCE as registering on the “rude richter scale.” But when you really think about it, it kind of makes sense. Your outward appearance speaks volumes and often sets the tone for how YOU feel about yourself…. And we all know the saying… if you don’t feel good about yourself, no one else will…. Well, today my partner Lisa Gache and I explore this subject and talk about why maybe my mom uniform of yoga pants and an American Apparel pullover is sending the wrong message… > Manners Monday Appearance from lisagache on Vimeo. Lisa’s Tips: Ø Moms, set your alarm so you ...Read More

Just in time for Spring, I’m giving myself a mini (major) makeover – in the wardrobe department. I was contacted by LA Stylist Robin Saperstein, of High Heel in a Haystack, to see if I’d be interested in having a fashion makeover. (Hell to the yes!) Next week, she’ll come over and in about 4 hours, we’ll go through my closet and try on EVERYTHING. Robin will help me decide what to toss (donate to charity) and what to keep. Based on what we keep, she’ll not only help me organize my closet, but determine what goes with what. Basically, I’ll be shopping my own closet! Love it. After our ...Read More
