My Body, My Motivation: Thanks, Kim Kardashian.

Me. Honeymooning in Santorini, Greece.
June 2014

I want to hate Kim Kardashian for recently posting a naked selfie (that she admits is not even of her post baby body), but I can’t. In response to the uproar over her breaking the internet yet again, Kim writes “I am empowered by my body, I am DSC_0889 empowered by my sexuality. I am empowered by feeling comfortable in my skin. I am empowered by showing the world my flaws and not being afraid of what anyone is going to say about me. And I hope that through this platform I have been given, I can encourage the same empowerment for girls and women all over the world.”

Well, as a mom and woman struggling to feel comfortable in her own skin that has stretched, dropped, and literally been cut open, I have no choice but to applaud her. As they say on the Jersey Shore, let Kim do Kim and “you do you.”

From cutting out gluten, eating whole, eating less, drinking less (okay, maybe not that), I’ve spent the last few months making myself crazy with the notion that my body is not like it once was. I know: No shit. I had a baby 6 months ago. My body is NOT like it once was. But it can be someday. And at almost 40, I’m not looking at Kim’s body or any other celebrity’s body for motivation: I’m looking at mine! I want to be LIKE ME. Like the new old me. I want the body of the woman I see in these photos, but with more strength, more courage and more power under my belt. Looking at these pictures motivates me, Screen Shot 2014-09-03 at 12.51.10 PM encourages me, and makes me feel beautiful. And we all deserve to feel beautiful, whether you have 63 million followers like Kim, or your mom likes and unlikes your photo 63 million times because she still doesn’t get that. You. Can’t. Enlarge. A. Photo. On. Instagram. For the love all things holy! But I digress…

The point is: there are moments when I will forget it, and want to beat myself up for having to “size up,” but my body is rich in health and experience and that is something that will never go out of style.

In the meantime, Spring has sprung and my wardrobe needed some updates! Since my body is still in a “transitional phase,” (look at me being kind to myself), I’m focusing on just a few tops and one fantastic pair of jeans to get me through the next couple weeks.  Here are a few things on my want list already possibly in my closet. Now if only I had the same budget for a new wardrobe as Kim Kardashian… #wishfulthinking.

Happy Spring, friends.
