Summer Style & Travel: Mexico Edition
It’s hard to believe that two years ago, I was writing a post about what three dresses I planned to wear as I pranced around Italy and Greece on our honeymoon. That was the trip of a lifetime and seems like forever ago… but I guess time certainly has a way of flying when you’re making babies and moving in to a new house. From Oliver’s amazing health, to Jonah finishing 2nd grade with flying colors, and Peter graduation with an MBA from UCLA (and working full time!) we have so much to celebrate and in my opinion, deserve another fabulous vacation! (Cue the St. Regis, Punta Mita!) Sadly, however, when it comes to packing, some of those amazing dresses and bikinis that I was rocking two years ago, do not quite fit mi grande culo. (You can read all about the baby weightloss struggle here). Eventually I’ll fit back into the Vince maxi, seen here (this has been repinned almost 6k times! Kinda cool), but for now, I’ve managed to do a bit of a closet edit and am focusing on a few looks that work for my body right now. (Hello, cold shoulder. Thank you so much for the person that came up with this trend).
So Mexico… With two little ones in tow, I wanted to be practical and not only find things I could move around in comfortably, but also that wouldn’t break the bank (because like I said, I plan to fit into my size 2’s once again).
Denim & Lace
Now, I know I just said that I didn’t want to break the bank, but I had to make an exception– for starters, I fell in love with this NSF Lace Shell and it’s something I know I will wear through the fall. But also, people, denim cutoffs that fit properly are hard to come by. You’d think because they’re less material, they wouldn’t necessarily cost as much as their cousin: The Real Jean. But alas, these little effers are costly– and the more perfect they’re ripped and deconstructed, the more expensive. But I love these Rag & Bone ones (similar here— note I searched high and low for the ones I’m wearing. They’re pretty much sold out everywhere)– they’re baggy and comfy and will look great with a great white tee or a feminine lace top like this. It’s just a staple! I’ve paired them with these easy slides from Old Navy and glasses from H&M. (It’s all about the high and low, right?)
This Madewell shirt is also perfect to pair with the cutoffs and my new favorite bag of the year!
Crochet Cold Shoulder Dress
Here’s the thing: I would love a dress like this or this, but the reality is that this is a trend that will only last so long… so spending over $200 just doesn’t seem right. That’s where stores like Target make my life easier. This Mossimo dress is exactly what I need for the boho chic, cold shoulder vibe. The crochet is very simple and non-offensive and the color doesn’t wash me out. What I’m trying to say is, I love it, do you?
Paired the dress with these shoes from Steve Madden. I found them to be more comfortable with the tassels in the back.
I finally have a reason to carry this darling clutch from Kayu that a friend gave me over the holidays too!
Oh, and just in case there’s a little accident with mommy’s Ray Bans (i.e., the margarita(s) prevent me from having the energy to take my sunglasses away from the baby who thinks they’re a toy), I bought these adorable sunnies from Urban Outfitters. Because they were $16 and I thought they were cute. And also because I cannot justify buying the Celine ones I really want.
LRD: Little Red Dress
When I was pregnant, a friend told me about ASOS.com. How I never knew about this site is beyond me, but now I do and now it’s not good. But like in a healthy way, not good. I’m sort of obsessed with this off the shoulder cotton dress and wish they made it in more colors. They probably do, but that would require me to buy more, uh, stop writing and start shopping (again). Perfect for day or not, pool or casual restaurant, I can guarantee this will be my go-to vacation dress.
I found the striped tote in the $1 bin at Target a few months ago (I think it was actually $5 at the most!), so if it gets trashed at the pool, I’m not going to be terribly disappointed.
To streamline travel that automatically gets chaotic when you have a baby, I don’t think I will be bringing a diaper bag, so this tote should be perfect for a carryall.
But let’s cut to the chase, what really makes this outfit the piéce de résistance? My Oliver Blue! The best look ever.
Hope everyone has a great kick off to an amazing summer! Adios, amigos!
