Screen Shot 2014-12-30 at 6.11.14 PM I could write a really long intro about the announcement I’m about to make, but let me just cut to the chase: Our wedding has been featured on J.Crew  and I am literally bursting at the seams with excitement!!! JCREW. AHHH!

In August 2013, just a few weeks after Peter proposed, I was lucky to have to go New York to shoot some videos with LifetimeMoms. While I was there, I not only ate my weight in pizza and champagne with one of my besties, BUT I made an appointment at the JCrew bridal salon on 5th Ave just cuz.

The Percy gown was the second dress I tried on… Simple, elegant, comfortable and shockingly flattering, this was THE ONE. Also, let me be honest: the price was right. I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with a dress with a high neckline, but the dip in the back balanced the cut and the silhouette was so classic and truly felt perfect for our ranch wedding in Santa Ynez. The fabric wasn’t heavy so there was some natural flow and movement to the dress. Full disclosure: because of the material and the way the dress was cut, I did not/could not wear undergarments (read: Spanx)… but this actually made it even more easy to wear… and force the good ol’ fashioned “Suck it in, girl” kind of day. Which only lasts for 10 minutes, as it turns out. Luckily though,  I worked with a seamstress who helped create a small bustle in the back, as well as build in cups in the bust, because, well, I have boobs. And they can’t survive on their own. Ever.

I kept my hair simple in a loose side bun and used my Great Grandmother’s diamond broche as a hair pin. My jewelry was simple –just a Crystal Scallop Bangle,  Round Cluster Stud Earrings (both from Nordstrom), and the “H” ring by my sweet friend and talented jewelry GRockLA (similar here), which was given to me by Peter the morning of our wedding. I borrowed my sister in law’s veil which was simple and long and worked perfectly with my dress. My shoes were Badgley Mischka (similar here)… Though for most of the day and night, I did wear my old cowboy boots since most of our photos were taken in the dirt and the reception was in an actual barn.

Did I mention the bride wore JCrew and the groom wore Burberry? That’s one of our favorite stories to tell…

I’m so grateful for our talented and sweet photographer Leah Lee who really captured the vibe of the day and made us look pretty and put together in a totally laid back and authentic way. She even encouraged Peter to keep his glass of scotch in some of the photos. That’s our kind of gal.

For those of you interested in a dress like this for your wedding, or just to see more of me (narcissist’s flag waving loudly here!), here are some photos that I think show off the dress, my hair and other details… And be sure to head to JCrew.com to check out the feature!

Happy New Year! 2015 is going to be a great one!

You look absolutely stunning in your wedding dress. My daughter is looking for a used J.Crew Percy dress for her wedding - Size 2 or 4 (she has not tried one on yet, so I don't know). Do you still have yours and if so, is it for sale?
    Thank you.

Hi Kat! Thank you so much for your kind comment. My dress was a 6 but I did have it taken in quite a bit. My seamstress was amazing and did an incredible job (she also built in cups so I didn't have to wear any undergarments (no spanx, no bra, no nothin'!) and I could still maintain a nice bustline. I'd be happy to sell if this is of interest. I will email you directly :-) Congrats to your daughter. - Jennifer

I am so in love with this dress! I am thinking about ordering it, but I am a little nervous because of your comment about no Spanx! What did it look like when you had them on? Do you think I could possibly still wear them?

      Hi Stephanie,
I never even attempted to wear Spanx underneath because of the fabric -- the way it laid against my body, I was too concerned that seams would show through. More importantly, the back is too low and you would have definitely seen them in the back at the waist (since they're all pretty high, no?)
Have you tried dress on? You can order dress and return…. It is JCrew after all!
      Good luck!

Hi Stephanie, I'm sure I'm too late here to respond but I hope I can help! ( I had a baby a few weeks after you wrote so was definitely a little MIA! Sorry!) As for Spanx, I didn't wear them! (Lots of sucking in lol). But I did wear underwear (thongs) but I had a bra sewn in so I really didn't have any seams or anything showing. Good luck!
